Summary of the contracting process

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority recently completed a procurement process for the provision of safe and sustainable cycle and scooter shelters for schools in Rotherham and Sheffield. This initiative falls under the sub-central government public authority classification and seeks to enhance transport and infrastructure facilities for educational institutions. The awarded contract, valued at £89,300, was signed on 28 February 2026 and is set to be active from 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2027. Using a below-threshold procurement method, the project aims to install a minimum of 20 units to promote cycling and scooting among schoolchildren by ensuring their equipment remains secure and weatherproof.

This tender offers significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in construction or infrastructure projects, particularly those developing sustainable, user-friendly storage solutions. Companies like DOING R BIT LIMITED, which provide durable building structures related to education, are well-positioned to leverage their expertise and compete for similar projects. Businesses focusing on the design and installation of miscellaneous building structures could greatly benefit from participating in such contracts, opening avenues for further collaborations in public-sector transportation projects.

Notice Title

Safe and Sustainable Cycle and Scooter Shelters for Schools

Notice Description

SYMCA aims to provide safe, secure, long-lasting and sustainable scooter/cycle storage facilities across Rotherham and Sheffield schools, to encourage more children to scoot or cycle on the school run. Parents/carers should feel confident they can leave children's bikes/scooters in the units; that they will stay dry and be reasonably protected from British weather and winters. The goal is to create a minimum of 20 safe, reliable, appealing and user-friendly scooter/cycle storage units that promote scooting and cycling for schoolchildren. The Supplier shall ensure that each cycle storage unit is designed and constructed to accommodate, on average, a minimum of twelve (12) standard children's bicycles. Where agreed with SYMCA, variations to the 20 may be permitted to accommodate site-specific needs. For example, a larger shelter providing capacity equivalent to multiple standard units may count as more than one unit toward the minimum total. Total amount of the contract is PS89,300.00.
