Summary of the contracting process

The Food Standards Agency is currently in the planning stage of a public procurement process titled "Market Engagement: Research - Source Attribution Studies." This procurement is situated in York, United Kingdom, under the industry categories of research and development services and consultancy. The primary goal is to engage the market in assessing the feasibility of research on transmission pathways and AMR origins in intestinal infectious diseases. A preliminary market engagement notice has been published, with a deadline for returning the PME Questionnaire set for 6th July 2026 at 12 noon. The engagement aims to determine whether the £500,000 budget and 24-month timeline are adequate to meet research objectives. Future communication about this tender is scheduled for 1st August 2026.

This procurement opportunity is an excellent chance for businesses in the research and development sectors, particularly those offering consultancy services and scientific testing. SMEs and voluntary community and social enterprises are notably welcomed, as they are deemed suitable for this tender. Companies capable of leveraging existing datasets or providing additional data generation, sequencing, or sampling services could find the contract's scope an opportunity for substantial business growth. The insights gathered from this market engagement will help shape future procurement strategies, allowing participating businesses to potentially play a pivotal role in a significant governmental research initiative.

Notice Title

Market Engagement: Research - Source Attribution Studies

Notice Description

The Food Standards Agency are carrying out Pre Market Engagement (PME) to ascertain market thoughts on the feasibility of Source Attribution Studies to Understand Transmission Pathways and AMR Origins in Intestinal Infectious Disease. This PME is being undertaken to assess the scientific feasibility of the proposed study and determine whether the indicative PS500,000 budget and 24-month timeframe are sufficient to deliver a meaningful proportion of the research questions. The FSA recognises that it may not be feasible to address all research questions or include all IID3 pathogens within these constraints. Suppliers are invited to provide insight into: * What scope of analysis is realistically achievable within the proposed budget and timeline. * The extent to which the research can be delivered using existing datasets alone, versus where additional sequencing, data generation, or sampling would be required * Whether the current budget and/or timeline are sufficient, or if adjustments would be necessary to meet the core research aims at an appropriate level of scientific rigour. The information gathered will be used solely to shape the FSA's understanding of the market and to refine a potential future procurement. Participation is voluntary, and non-participation will not disadvantage suppliers in any subsequent procurement process. All documents and communication for FSA funded projects must be submitted through the health-family single e-Commercial System (Atamis), using the following link: https://health-family.force.com/s/Welcome

Planning Information
