Summary of the contracting process

The Northern Lighthouse Board has initiated a public procurement process for major roof works, titled "Northern Lighthouse Board HQ Roof Works." This procurement is managed by a central government public authority and involves replacing the existing roof components such as slates and flashings, as well as conducting various repairs and maintenance to ensure safety and preservation of the Grade A listed building located at 84 George Street, Edinburgh. The process is currently at the planning stage, with a market engagement notice published. Parties interested in this procurement can engage by confirming their interest by 10th July 2026, while the anticipated start date for the works is 6th September 2026. Project completion is expected by 14th February 2027, and the estimated project value is £360,000, with the primary focus on works within the roof and specialised trade construction sector.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specializing in construction work, particularly those with expertise in historical building maintenance and roofing. Companies experienced in handling public safety and with the ability to work within heritage constraints would find this contract a valuable addition to their portfolio. The project's complexity, including scaffolding design and leadwork, requires technically adept contractors who can ensure seamless execution, offering opportunities for business growth in maintaining London's architectural heritage. With careful planning and execution, participating businesses can enhance their reputation in the public sector, potentially leading to more opportunities within government-related assignments.
