Summary of the contracting process

Cambridge City Council is in the planning stage of a procurement process for the Cambridgeshire Home Improvement Agency (CHIA) equipment contract, focusing on the provision and installation of various specialist equipment and services. The process is currently in the planning stage, with a pre-market engagement session scheduled for 15th July 2026, to be conducted via Teams. This procurement involves categories such as medical furniture, aids, access ramps, hoists, and lifts, mainly in the Cambridge City, Huntingdonshire, and South Cambridgeshire regions. The contract, worth approximately £4 million, is set to commence on 1st November 2026 for an initial two-year period, with potential extensions up to 2030.

This tender offers substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in the installation and supply of medical and accessibility equipment. The contracts are structured into multiple lots, allowing for SMEs to participate, fostering competitive growth and market entry. Businesses experienced in installing modular ramps, stair lifts, hoists, and other related systems will find this particularly suitable. With the backing of a shared council service, this procurement process is an opportunity for relevant businesses to engage in a long-term partnership, given the option for a contract extension and the significant budget allocation.
