Summary of the contracting process

Beyond Housing Limited is procuring arboriculture and associated tree services for its housing stock. The work includes remedial and reactive tree maintenance, crown lifting, crown thinning, tree felling, stump grinding, shrub-bed reductions and removals, hedge reductions and removals, tree cutting and clearance. The requirement is divided into two regional areas: the North, covering Redcar, Ormesby, Skelton, Brotton, Easington and surrounding areas; and the South, covering Staithes, Whitby, Scarborough, Eastfield, Bridlington and surrounding areas. The services are intended to provide a straightforward process for requesting works, consistent pricing, safe working methods and high-quality, value-for-money delivery. The relevant service categories include tree maintenance, tree pruning, hedge trimming, tree cutting and tree clearance.

The procurement has reached tender: Beyond Housing invited offers through an open procedure. The estimated total value is £384,000 including VAT. Suppliers could ask questions until 1 September 2026 at 23:59, and offers were due by 8 September 2026 at 13:00. The intended award decision date was 7 October 2026. The contract period is 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2028, with possible renewal by mutual agreement for up to two further 12-month periods, subject to satisfactory performance and compliance. There are two lots, but a supplier may bid for and be awarded no more than one. Each lot is assessed on 40% pricing and 60% quality. Electronic submission in English is allowed through Beyond Housing’s e-procurement platform.

This opportunity suits qualified arboricultural contractors able to deliver both planned remedial work and responsive tree services across a defined northern or southern operating area. Suppliers need practical capability across pruning, crown work, felling, stump grinding, tree and hedge removals, shrub-bed work, clearance and maintenance. The requirement places particular importance on safe methods of working, so bidders should be able to demonstrate robust health and safety controls for operatives, residents, the public and other third parties. Contractors should also have the operational capacity to respond to changing tree conditions, location-based service requirements and environmental or legislative changes. The lots are identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary, community or social enterprises, with quality carrying greater weight than price in evaluation.
