Summary of the contracting process

Belfast Harbour has initiated a tender process for the "Belfast Harbour Maintenance Dredging 2026" project, focusing on dredging and disposal works to restore navigation channels and berths within specified areas of Belfast Harbour. The procurement process follows a selective method under a competitive flexible procedure, specifically fitting the category of works, with an estimated contract value of £4,200,000 excluding VAT. The tender is guided by modern UK procurement regulations, applicable in Northern Ireland. The pre-qualification documents became accessible from 8th July 2026, with a deadline for expressions of interest on 31st July 2026. The enquiry period ends on 24th July 2026, and the award decision is projected to be concluded by 15th September 2026. The estimated contract period will start from 1st October 2026 to 27th November 2026. The main industry category is dredging and pumping works, and the project is anticipated to last 8-10 weeks.

Businesses with experience in substantial dredging projects may find robust growth opportunities through this tender, particularly those capable of managing and deploying significant plant and resources efficiently. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also capable of competing, as the contract terms support their participation. The procurement process involves various stages, including pre-qualification and invitation to tender for shortlisted applicants, ensuring that only businesses capable of meeting economic and technical conditions can partake. This tender offer not only helps expand business operations but also opens avenues for establishing long-term collaborations with Belfast Harbour, contributing to infrastructure enhancement and regional development.
