Summary of the contracting process

Dorchester Town Council is currently managing a public procurement process titled "Refurbishment of the Town Pump, Cornhill, Dorchester." This tender, specifically aimed at the construction industry, involves the sensitive refurbishment of a Grade II listed structure. The project encompasses careful dismantling and reconstruction using traditional conservation methods and includes both structural correction and the creation of new architectural features. Situated in Dorchester, the tender is under the 'works' category within the 'Below threshold - open competition' method, with the procurement process in the tender stage. Interested parties have until 14th August 2026 to submit their proposals, and the contract period is set to start on 1st October 2026, concluding by 12th October 2026, with possible extensions to December should the conservative needs require. The procurement is legally anchored in the UK legislation 2023/54.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in heritage construction and refurbishment, specifically those with experience in masonry, stone conservation, and architectural restorations. Given the demand for conserving historically significant buildings, businesses adept in employing traditional techniques for structural improvement and decorative restoration should find this contract promising. The project, with a budget of up to £80,000, is especially suitable for SMEs that offer high-quality craftmanship and innovative solutions for unforeseen heritage conservation challenges. Companies seeking to establish or expand their footprint in heritage work within the UK, particularly those focusing on conservation-led projects, would find this procurement a strategic opportunity for growth.
