The Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire intends to procure a service for animals taken into police possession, mainly dangerous dogs seized to protect the public. The required scope covers safe collection, kennelling and care, transport, and associated veterinary support. The service will also cover other animals where needed. Delivery is expected across multiple regions of England, supporting police operations beyond Leicestershire. Initial market engagement and a request for information are planned, with suppliers expected to register interest by 10 August 2026 at 2pm. The buyer has indicated that the lot is suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary, community or social enterprises. Evaluation and procedure details have not yet been set out.

This will suit established kennelling, animal rescue, veterinary and specialist transport providers, including smaller organisations and voluntary or community enterprises able to work with police-held animals. Suppliers should be prepared to care for animals for extended periods and to coordinate collection, transport, kennelling and treatment as one service. Experience of managing seized animals or animals presenting risks to the public would be directly relevant. Businesses that can provide reliable operational coverage beyond a single local area, or work effectively through suitable delivery partners, may be well placed when the requirement reaches the market.
