Summary of the contracting process

NHS England procured data collection and management services for the GP2DRS diabetic eye screening system. The requirement covers collecting eligible-cohort data from approximately 7,000 GP practice systems, so local Diabetic Eye Screening providers can download a monthly list of people aged 12 and over who are registered with a practice in their area and coded as having diabetes on the extract date. The data is extracted through the NHS Digital GP Extraction Service, subjected to a rigorous quality-assurance process, and uploaded to the GP2DRS database. The procurement is for IT services, including software development, internet and support. The work supports NHS diabetic eye screening data management for GP practices and local screening providers.

This procurement is complete and was awarded through a below-threshold direct procedure without competition. One completed lot was awarded to QUICKSILVA LIMITED, and the contract is active. The contract was signed on 18 May 2026 and runs from 18 May 2026 to 31 March 2027. Its value is £86,873.57 excluding VAT, or £104,248.28 including VAT. The evaluation outcome was the direct appointment of the selected supplier; no competitive award criteria are recorded. The requirement was treated as a services procurement and the contract covers the full diabetic eye screening data collection and management requirement described by NHS England.

This requirement demonstrates demand for a supplier able to operate dependable health-data services at national scale, connecting with around 7,000 GP practice systems and producing accurate monthly extracts for operational screening providers. A credible future competitor would need practical capability in data integration, secure handling of sensitive healthcare information, data-quality assurance and database management. Experience translating coded diabetes and patient-registration data into usable screening cohorts would be directly relevant, as would the ability to maintain reliable interfaces and support users who download and use the outputs. Suppliers should also be able to manage a service spanning GP systems, extraction infrastructure, quality controls and an NHS database, with sufficient operational capacity to deliver consistently across a large distributed estate.
