Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence intends to procure new Metal Laundry Equipment for Defence Munitions Gosport, followed by in-service support for the equipment. The requirement includes removing and disposing of the existing equipment before installing the replacement system. This is a specialist equipment supply, installation, removal and ongoing maintenance service, covering metal laundry machinery and related support. The work is associated with repair and maintenance of metal containers and machinery (CPV 50500000). Delivery and service activity is centred on Defence Munitions Gosport in Gosport. The procurement is structured as one lot. The equipment and support are intended for use within a defence munitions facility, so suppliers should be able to work in an operational Ministry of Defence environment and manage the full transition from existing equipment to the new installation.

This procurement is at the planning stage and the buyer has issued a Request for Information rather than an invitation to tender. The Ministry of Defence is using the RFI to assess industry capability, invite innovative solutions and obtain indicative pricing before deciding how to proceed. Responses are expected by 9 October 2026, with the buyer indicating 8 September 2026 as the future notice date. The intended approach is a competitive procurement for one lot covering new Metal Laundry Equipment and subsequent in-service support. The process is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement. Suppliers should treat the scope, procedure and pricing as subject to development through this market engagement; there is no contract award or tender submission at this stage.

This will suit equipment manufacturers, industrial laundry-system specialists, engineering contractors and maintenance providers able to offer both new Metal Laundry Equipment and continuing in-service support. Relevant capability includes surveying and safely removing existing machinery, arranging compliant disposal, supplying and installing replacement equipment, commissioning it and maintaining it over its service life. Suppliers offering integrated solutions may be well placed because the requirement combines capital equipment with support rather than separating those activities. Experience of complex industrial sites, planned and reactive maintenance, equipment reliability and controlled installation would be useful. Defence-sector or other highly regulated-site experience would help suppliers prepare for the operating environment. The RFI also invites innovative approaches, so businesses with alternative technical solutions should consider contributing during the market-engagement phase.
