Summary of the contracting process

The British Council plans to procure end-user computing and on-site IT support for its UK offices, including hands-on, desk-side and infrastructure support where issues cannot be resolved remotely by its Global Service Desk or Central Infrastructure Team. The work will support the Council’s Digital and Technology team across its UK estate, which is primarily based at its Stratford headquarters. The supplier will also have a physical presence in Manchester and provide mainly remote support to offices in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Coventry, with site visits when required. This is IT support services (CPV 72000000). The described delivery locations are the British Council’s UK headquarters and UK-based offices.

This is at the planning stage: the British Council has set out an intention to procure, but has not yet issued an invitation to tender. It expects an open procedure and anticipates publishing the next notice on 30 September 2026; this is a planned publication date, not a bid deadline. The planned contract period runs from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2030, with options for up to four further annual extensions, potentially extending the term to 31 March 2034. The estimated value is £1,283,333 excluding VAT, or £1,540,000 including VAT. The procurement is planned as a single lot and is marked as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. Interested suppliers are expected to complete a signed non-disclosure agreement and procurement-specific questionnaire before receiving the tender pack.

This work is likely to suit IT service providers with the operational capacity to support a multi-site UK organisation, combining desk-side user support with infrastructure expertise. Suppliers will need to complement an existing global service desk and central infrastructure team, taking on hands-on issues that those teams cannot resolve remotely. A strong fit would include the ability to provide a physical presence in Stratford and Manchester, remote support across Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Coventry, and occasional travel to sites when needed. The planned SME suitability makes the requirement relevant to smaller providers as well as larger IT outsourcers. Businesses interested in preparing should be ready to complete the required confidentiality agreement and procurement questionnaire as the process progresses.
