Summary of the contracting process

Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult commissioned an onsite computer systems validation contractor to support the start of its biologics collaboration with Ena Biologics. The work is at the Braintree site and covers qualification and validation of project equipment, systems and processes. The wider collaboration is developing and manufacturing biologics, with the aim of bringing a commercial GLP-1 biosimilar to the European market. The validation work is intended to provide documented evidence that systems, equipment and processes perform as intended, and that critical process parameters and quality attributes are recorded and validated. This is specialist life-sciences validation consultancy, rather than general IT support or routine equipment maintenance.

The procurement is complete and the contract was awarded to Walker Cole International Ltd. on 29 September 2026. The award value is £91,000 excluding VAT (£109,200 including VAT). The contract period runs from 1 October 2026 to 2 March 2027, for approximately six months. It was a single-lot, below-threshold procurement; the method is recorded as unknown. The work was bought as services, covering systems and technical consultancy, systems consultancy and project management consultancy. The award is active, and a contract signature was scheduled for 30 September 2026. No award evaluation criteria are recorded in the published procurement data.

This award demonstrates demand from Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult for dedicated computer systems validation capacity to support biologics development and manufacturing at its Braintree site. Suppliers competing for similar future work would need practical experience qualifying and validating equipment, computerised systems and processes in a regulated medicinal-product environment. Credibility will depend on producing clear, auditable evidence that assets are fit for intended use and that critical process parameters and quality attributes are properly documented and validated. The requirement also points to a need for a contractor able to work onsite and contribute directly to a project team during a focused mobilisation phase. Specialist life-sciences validation consultancies and appropriately experienced individual contractors are the closest fit.

Notice Description

CGT Catapult has entered into a strategic collaboration agreement with Ena Biologics for the development and manufacture of biologics. This collaboration for the Braintree site requires significant qualification and validation of systems, equipment, and processes. The objective of this collaboration is to launch a commercial GLP-1 Biosimilar into the European market in 2029. Commercial medicinal products require full end to end qualification and validation of all direct impact systems, equipment, and processes ensuring documented and objective evidence that they meet their intended use and ensure all critical process parameters and critical quality attributes are documented and validated. To enable the success of this collaboration a significant body of work is required from the CGT Catapult validation team in qualifying and validating various items of CGT equipment. This requires a CSV contractor on a 6 months contract to support CGT Catapult in the initiation of the Ena project by supporting with the qualification and validation of various items of key project equipment. The post will be for an onsite position at our Braintree site: 4 Warner Dr, Springwood Industrial Estate, Braintree CM7 2YW
