Summary of the contracting process

The National Army Museum is seeking a specialist catering adviser to review its current onsite catering offer. The work is intended to support the Museum’s wider commercial development plans and improve the visitor experience. The first phase is a review of the existing catering service, including an appraisal and recommendations. If the Museum chooses to proceed, a second phase would provide support with procurement. The service relates to catering consultancy rather than the supply or operation of catering services. The Museum is in London, and the requirement concerns its onsite catering offer. The work is being procured as a single service requirement by the National Army Museum, a central government public authority.

The process has reached tender: the Museum invited offers through an open competition. The enquiry deadline set by the buyer was 2 November 2026 at 14:00, and the submission deadline was 4 November 2026 at 10:00. The contract period is scheduled to run from 23 November 2026 to 30 June 2027. The estimated value is £20,000 excluding VAT (£24,000 including VAT). The procurement is divided into one lot. Bids are evaluated on methodology (40%), relevant experience and capability (35%), and overall price (25%). The work has two phases: Phase 1 is the service appraisal and recommendations; Phase 2 is procurement support, commissioned only if the Museum decides to proceed and formally authorises it.

This opportunity is suited to specialist catering advisers able to assess an existing museum catering offer and recommend how it could better support commercial development and visitor experience. Suppliers should be able to set out a credible methodology for reviewing the service and producing recommendations, as methodology carries the largest evaluation weighting. Relevant experience and capability also form a substantial part of the assessment, so businesses with evidence of comparable catering reviews or advisory work may be well placed to compete. The buyer marks the requirement as suitable for small and medium-sized businesses and voluntary, community and social enterprises. The work may extend from appraisal into procurement support, but that second phase depends on the Museum’s decision and formal authorisation.
