Software and Licensing to Integrate Lung Function Test Reports with the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP)

NHS WALES SHARED SERVICES PARTNERSHIP-PROCUREMENT SERVICES (HOSTED BY VELINDRE UNIVERSITY NHS TRUST)

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, has conducted a procurement process for the provision of software and licensing to integrate lung function test reports with the Welsh Clinical Portal. This procurement falls within the health sector and is located in Cardiff, UK. The procurement was carried out through a limited procedure without prior publication of a call for competition, reflecting the urgent clinical need to harmonise existing lung function results across Wales. The contract was awarded to Vyaire Medical Products Limited, with a total value of £244,306.78, and was formally signed on 22 March 2022. The contracting authority will allow for a minimum 10 calendar day standstill period post-award.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses that specialise in health technology and software integration, particularly those with existing relationships or technical compatibility with Vyaire’s systems. Companies that can provide bespoke software solutions capable of integrating with established healthcare frameworks would be especially well-suited to engage in future similar contracts. The focus on standardising test reports and data monitoring across health boards in Wales may attract interest from medium to large enterprises aiming to expand their footprint in public sector healthcare contracts.

Notice Title

Software and Licensing to Integrate Lung Function Test Reports with the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP)

Notice Description

Purchase of Software and Licensing to support Integration of existing Vyaire hardware into the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP)

Lot Information

Lot 1

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP), in Collaboration with the Respiratory Health Implementation Group and the acting lead Authority Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are undertaking a procurement on behalf of Local Health Boards in Wales to procure bespoke licensing to a system that will integrate the existing hardware located across Wales into the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP). Currently there is no integration between lung function results and WCP, so these results are not available when patients are seen in clinic. This inevitably results in repeat testing which is wasteful and low value. Almost all lung function departments in Wales have independently purchased equipment from the same provider (Vyaire), who have a software system called Sentrysuite which can be configured to meet the NHS Wales Standards for Ordering and Reporting integration with the NHS Wales National Architecture. Having one system for Wales that meets these standards will improve information governance and data sharing, standardisation of test reports and data monitoring. Due to the compatibility reasons between the hardware and software no other provider would be able to support this integration.

Procurement Information

There is a clinical need to integrate the current lung function results across Wales into the Welsh Clinical Portal. Due to existing Vyaire hardware investment across all the Health Boards there is no provider with the capability to deliver a financially viable solution that will operate together with the existing technical infrastructure. Due to compatibility reasons Vyaire are deemed the only provider with the technical ability to meet the needs to NHS Wales.
