Contract Summary
RECTIFI (Reducing Embedded Carbon Through Transformation in Foundation Industries) is an Innovate UK partnership project including EMR, TATA Steel UK, Aggregate Industries, Darlow Lloyd and Swansea University. The project is focused upon improving the quality of obsolete steel, recycled from consumer products such as vehicles and white goods with significant positive implications for the decarbonisation of the steel and aggregate industries by virtue of recycling the materials directly for high quality products. Direct recycling in this way will allow ‘green’ electricity based melting and processing and remove the need for extensive carbon emitting chemical conversion of virgin ores that has been the traditional route for producing high quality steel and cement manufacture. The Swansea University arm of the RECTIFI Project has now awarded a contractor to a provider of a handheld XRF Analyser. Swansea University’s scope is to consider the 3b category scrap steel and investigate its overall composition where a handheld XRF Analyzer will enable the Swansea University project team to do a more thorough characterisation.
