Notice Title

NWRT - SAF-AS0522-P2 Fencing, hedgerow planting

Notice Description

Summary or worksSupply and install ~1050m of stock fencingSupply and install ~500m of double hedgerowSupply and install 6 x 12' galvanised steel gatesSupply and install 6 x 400 gallon concrete troughs with hard standingDig to ploughing depth and lay ~1000m of 32mm water pipe to feed all troughs.Supply and install 1 x 10,000l header tank which will store water and feed the troughs via gravity system.Work specifications~1050m of stock fencing of fields along banks of the Afon Bach tributary, see map for details.Fence to be constructed using FSC certified, UC4 treated timber and high tensile wire. Strainer posts (~ 19) to be 7-8" diameter and at start, end and major changes in direction, supported by braced struts. Turning posts 5-6" (~ 13) used at minor changes in direction or height. Intermediate posts 3-4" diameter and no more than 11' apart. 80 cm sheep netting with two strands of barbed wire, one above and one below the netting. Strainer posts and struts to be no closer than 2 m from the top of a steep bank, or if gentle sloped bank no closer than 2 m to the water's edge. The exact positioning of the fence will be agreed between the contractor, landowner, and NWRT before installation. The finished fence height should be approximately 1.1m (44"). Use of a track machine is obligatory due to wet ground conditions likely to be encountered at this farm.Supply and install ~500m of double row hedgerow planting along the contour of the tributary (see maps attached). This is to be planted before the fencing. Typical species mix to include but not limited to: Blackthorn, hawthorn, gorse, hazel and dog rose. All planting must be in-keeping with current native species present in the area. No hedgerow planting at gate sites.Supply and hang 6 x 12' galvanised steel access gates at locations in plan including self-closing springs with appropriate tie-back stakes/latches. Access gates should always be hung on gate posts which are railed to a strainer, never hung on the same post that wire is tensioned to.- Supply and install 6 x 400-gallon concrete drinking troughs with hard standing areas at locations shown in the site plan. All troughs need to be suitable for sheep and cattle.Supply and install 1 x 10,000l header tank. Construct a 32mm instream intake pipe 10m higher elevation than the header tank. This intake pipe will require a sufficient filter head to prevent debris/sediment entering the system. The intake pipe is to be placed in a suitably deep and sediment free pool.Piping - Dig trench for ~1000m of water supply pipe to ploughing depth. Pipe from watercourse abstraction point is to be one unbroken piece (no joints) of 25mm pipe (a 5m pipe is supplied, but if solar pump is placed further away from the watercourse, another suitable pipe will need sourcing). Piping from the water pump going to the troughs is to be 32mm ONLY with fast flow/low pressure ball valves on water troughs so water flow rate is not restricted. ANY joints fitted are to be suitable Plasson joints. As work will be completed out of the in-river season, no embedded abstraction point can be installed. However, it is also not worth embedding the abstraction pipe into the bank given the size of this tributary. A suitably deep pool will suffice for the abstraction pipe where it can be secured in the river bed and fed via gravity to the header tank which will supply water to all troughs at lower elevationsACCESS to site: (Make sure you have checked permissions for all access to the site not just the landowner i.e. if access crosses over different farmers fields). Give exact instructions on how to get to the site and how to enter. Is there a specified area to leave goods i.e. gravels? Is there hard terrain or bog? Is it suitable for all types of vehicles? All measurements are indicative, and quoted totals will be taken as definitive. It is the contractor's obligation to clarify measurements to their own satisfaction, as adjustment to totals after completion cannot be made. Any additional works must be approved, otherwise payment cannot be made. Any brash clearing, tree work or other ground works required to install the scheme should be determined by the contractor and included in the initial quote. It is also the responsibility of the project officer and contractor to ensure that contracted works are not started WITHOUT A PROJECT OFFICER PRESENT. A project officer must be present at the beginning to brief all parties on the project. Failure to do so will void any contracts (and H&S policies) and payment may not be made. A project officer will meet you on the day of the works at 8am to outline the details. Please let NWRT know the times and dates of all works a minimum of 72 hours before the proposed works commence. A project officer may also follow up intermittently to check on the progress of the project (the frequency of this is dependent upon the complexity of the project). No other work than what is explicitly stated here is to be carried out unless approved by NWRT project manager. It is also the responsibility of the contractor to provide proof that all plant used are fit for purpose, as well as all relevant certifications.
