Contract for Design and Building WorK For Swansea Amphitheatre
Notice Description
Swansea City Centre is in the middle of a major urban transformation project. Phase one of Copr Bae, featuring an Urban Park, the 3000 seater Swansea Arena and a new city centre car park have recently been completed. Immediately adjacent to these sits the iconic Swansea Amphitheatre, which was at one time a major outdoor venue for events and performances. We plan to refurbish and enhance the Swansea Amphitheatre which is located behind the LC Oystermouth Rd, Maritime Quarter, Swansea SA1 3ST, bringing it back to life, and complementing the other facilities in the area.The space will be developed so that it is an area that can be used all year round for a range of different things, including outdoor gigs, comedy shows and outdoor cinema.We are looking for a contractor who can project manage and ensure that the following infrastructure improvements are made:Whilst we are open to ideas / options, these should include:a. The roof element should be removable.i. Any structural items (poles / stations etc) can be installed on a permeant basis.ii. Removal of the sail element should not be overly complex or demanding.iii. It is likely the roof will remain in place on a seasonal basisb. The product should be made from Durable / Longlife materials able to withstand the Swansea weather, which can be unpredictable.c. The roof should provide suitable audience protection from the elements.d. The product should be as far as reasonably practicable vandal resistant.e. The product must be in keeping with the area and sympathetic to local residentsThe contractor will be required to see this element of the project through from design until construction completion.The contract for work on the Amphitheatre will run from the initial design through to the completion of the works, for the avoidance of doubt, this includes seeking planning permission. There is a short timescale to this project due to the funding criteria.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
