Summary of the contracting process

Carmarthenshire County Council has announced plans for the Swansea Bay City Deal Digital Infrastructure Programme, specifically focusing on the Better Broadband Infill Project. This initiative aims to provide gigabit-capable broadband connections to areas in the Swansea Bay City Region, including Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot, where broadband speeds are currently below 30mbps. The procurement stage is currently in the planning phase, following a previous tender process that did not yield satisfactory results. Key dates for market engagement sessions are scheduled from 15th to 17th January 2025, allowing for further discussion with potential commercial partners before reissuing the tender.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in broadband infrastructure to collaborate with the local government in enhancing digital connectivity. Companies with expertise in providing gigabit broadband services and a proven track record of delivering such projects would be well-suited to compete. The planned adjustment of the budget and coverage targets aims to create a more viable and competitive process, ensuring that both residential and business premises in the region benefit from improved broadband access. The engagement sessions offer a platform for businesses to contribute their insights, thereby aligning the project scope with market capabilities and fostering business growth through government partnership.
