Summary of the contracting process

The Welsh Government (Llywodraeth Cymru) recently completed a procurement process to award a contract for services aimed at controlling antimicrobial resistance (AMR), in alignment with the UK National Action Plan for 2024-2029. The process utilised a selective procurement method, specifically a restricted procedure, under the Welsh Government's Rural Support Dynamic Purchasing System. MENTERA, a large enterprise based in Aberystwyth, was awarded the contract valued at GBP 8,000,000. This contract, focused on enhancing veterinary capabilities and leveraging technology in the UKL region, was signed on 10th March 2025 after a mini competition concluded under Category 1 (ref F119/2023/2024).

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses focusing on veterinary services, technology application in healthcare, and partnership-driven projects. Companies specialising in these areas, particularly those with the capability to reduce antimicrobial use and optimise current practices, would find themselves well-positioned to capitalise on similar future tenders. The focus on collaborative efforts and measurable impact aligns well with innovative firms that leverage technology and data-driven approaches, providing a fertile ground for business growth in public health sectors.
