Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Government is seeking to appoint a firm of legal advisers under the SG Framework Agreement for the Provision of Legal Services 2015 - Lot 3, specifically for handling Public Local Inquiries (PLIs). The procurement, titled "Award of Provision of Legal Services to Scottish Ministers and UK Government: Public Local Inquiries," has been in progress since 1 November 2016, with a planned end date of 31 October 2018. Relevant industry categories include legal services, advocacy, and general legal support, and the tender period allows for a comprehensive engagement with potential service providers.

This opportunity presents significant potential for law firms, particularly those with expertise in public inquiry processes, advocacy, and general legal support. Firms that have experience working with government agencies or public sector clients would be well-positioned to bid. With a total contract value of £300,000, the successful bidder will primarily serve Transport Scotland's Major Transport Infrastructure Projects Directorate and related departments, making this a valuable contract for businesses aiming to expand their public sector offerings.

Notice Title

Award of PROVISION OF LEGAL SERVICES TO SCOTTISH MINISTERS AND UK GOVERNMENT: PUBLIC LOCAL INQUIRIES

Notice Description

The Scottish Ministers and UK Government (through the Office of Advocate General (OAG)) wish to appoint a firm of legal advisers ('the Service Provider') under the SG Framework Agreement for the Provision of Legal Services 2015 - Lot 3 - to provide legal services to various Directorates, Agencies and UK Government Departments. This area of work will include the handling of Public Local Inquiries (PLIs), with the exception of anything particularly sensitive which will be handled by SGLD's litigation team, for a number of Scottish Government Directorates and Agencies. It is anticipated that the Major Transport Infrastructure Projects Directorate and the Trunk Roads and Bus Operations Directorate of Transport Scotland (together, 'the Roads Department') will be the principal clients. The Rail Directorate of Transport Scotland may also be a client. While the contract extends to any PLI work that may be commissioned by UK Government departments (through OAG), the volume of such work in the past has been low. Accordingly, it is not really possible to give a detailed description of previous work and, for obvious reasons, the volume and type of work that may be awarded under this contract depends very much on events.
