Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process detailed here involves the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) as the buying organisation, in collaboration with the Welsh Blood Service (WBS). The procurement, titled "Managed Service for Hepatitis E Nucleic Acid Testing", relates to the health services industry and is focused on ensuring effective testing for various viruses through a fully integrated microbiology managed service system. The service includes equipment, maintenance, and other required materials, delivered primarily to the SNBTS's Jack Copland Centre in Edinburgh, UK. The current procurement stage is an award update, following a contract modification to extend service continuity due to delays in implementing a new tender, with the contract period running until 31 October 2025. The procurement method used was an open procedure, and the contract was awarded to Grifols UK Ltd, initiated via a procedure dated back to 2016. An extension is currently being implemented from 1 November 2025, for six months, to ensure seamless transition and testing operations.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in supplying medical and testing services, offering potential growth through collaboration with notable public health organisations like SNBTS and WBS. Companies specialising in laboratory equipment manufacturing, testing services, or those providing comprehensive service solutions in the medical sector would find this contract highly suitable. The open procurement process suggests a fair competitive landscape for capable businesses, especially those that can deliver integrated solutions that include equipment, consumables, and support services. As the contract requires continuity in testing solutions, businesses that can ensure seamless integration with existing systems and provide innovative enhancements will be well-positioned to benefit from such procurements.
