The Wild Seaweed harvesting opportunity has never been looked at in Scotland before; therefore the costs associated with obtaining a marine licence for the activity are relatively unknown and the licencing process untested. In order to begin to understand if Laminaria harvesting has any potential as a diversification opportunity a comprehensive and extensive programme of work is required which will address the issues, barriers, sustainability, environmental impact and costs associated with wild seaweed harvesting.
