Notice Title
Supply of Heritage Street Lighting
Notice Description
Historic street lighting forms an integral part of Edinburgh's streetscape, which is one of the defining elements of the World Heritage Site's Outstanding Universal Value. Its historic quality significantly contributes to the historic atmosphere of the city, contributing to its overall historic authenticity and integrity. Despite significant urban changes in Edinburgh the principles of the street lighting have not changed significantly. In order to retain the historical features of the localities in which the lanterns will be installed, it is necessary to install them in order to maintain this. It is a particular requirement from Edinburgh World Heritage that certain Historic post top lanterns exist in World Heritage sites within the city in order to preserve the integrity of these purpose kept areas. World Heritage Sites must have robust management plans in place to ensure their Outstanding Universal Value is preserved and enhanced.
