Summary of the contracting process

The Common Services Agency, also known as NHS National Services Scotland, is initiating a tender process for a Clinical Waste Management Framework Agreement, set to commence on 1 April 2019. This procurement is intended for the uplift and disposal of clinical waste from all NHS Scotland Health Boards, including large hospitals and various healthcare facilities in Scotland. Interested suppliers are required to have their own disposal and treatment facilities, and the pre-procurement phase is currently underway. Key dates include a future notice on 30 September 2017, with site visits scheduled for 14 and 15 June for potential bidders.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in clinical waste management and treatment services, particularly those with the capability to manage diverse waste streams such as hazardous and non-hazardous healthcare waste. Companies with experience in providing waste management solutions to healthcare institutions or those that operate disposal facilities are particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Engaging in this tender not only allows firms to expand their market share within the healthcare sector but also aligns with the growing emphasis on sustainable waste practices in public service procurement.
