UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh recently completed a procurement process for the supply of autoclaves, a vital component in the education sector, with a value of £81,114. The procurement was conducted under the selective method, specifically a Restricted procedure, and involved one lot focused on the replacement of outdated equipment located at the Daniel Rutherford Building, Edinburgh (EH1 1HT). The contract was awarded on 1st June 2017, following a competitive tender process that attracted seven bids. The replacement is timely as the existing autoclaves are no longer fit for purpose and require decommissioning due to upcoming enabling works.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in the supply of high-quality laboratory equipment, particularly those experienced in providing goods for educational institutions. Suppliers able to deliver modern sterilisation technology with steam generation capabilities would be well-positioned to compete in similar future procurement opportunities with the University of Edinburgh and comparable educational establishments seeking to upgrade outdated facilities.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Replacement of two autoclaves currently in Room G.15, Daniel Rutherford Building. One (several decades old) will be scrapped. Current steam generator is near the end of its life, and is located in the Darwin Building basement - it thus needs to be decommissioned in the imminent Darwin Enabling Works. As the existing autoclaves are not fit for purpose and would require new steam generation facilities, this is a good opportunity to upgrade the facility. Both new sterilisers will have their own built in steam generators. One of the autoclaves will definitely be scrapped, the other will be retained by the workshop for parts.
