Notice Title

The Delivery of Magnus 900 Projection Mapping Artwork

Notice Description

Orkney Islands Council invites ambitious and innovative proposals for the creation and delivery of a projection mapping artwork. The artwork will be presented at St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall from 25 Nov - 9 Dec 2017.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The project has been developed through dialogue between Orkney Islands Council, the Kirkwall Townscape Heritage Initiative (KTHI) and the Kirkwall Business Improvement District (Kirkwall BID). St Magnus Cathedral, at the heart of Kirkwall's historic town centre is the greatest legacy of St Magnus. Founded in 1137 by Earl Rognvald in honour of his uncle St Magnus, the Cathedral is a fine example of Romanesque Architecture and led to the development of the town as we see it today. Proposals should clearly reference the shared histories of St Magnus and the development of Kirkwall and use the magnificent red sandstone cathedral as a backdrop and canvas for the work. The piece can be narrative led or more abstract in style, and should be durational to be played repeatedly throughout the evening. We are open to a range of different visual styles including abstract, cinematic or animation. The project, being part of the festival season, should be accessible and appeal to a mixed audience, both young and older alike.
