Summary of the contracting process

Glasgow City Council is conducting a public procurement process for the "Bells Bridge Operation and Maintenance" project, primarily within the services industry. This procurement is currently in the Award stage, following the tender period which ended on 8 December 2017. The project's focus is on the operation and 24-hour maintenance of Bell’s Bridge in Glasgow. This initiative is essential for ensuring the safe navigation of vessels as mandated by the Bell’s Bridge Order Confirmation Act 1995. The awarded contractors must cooperate with each other, and with the council and Clydeport Authority. The procurement was undertaken via an open procedure, indicating broad participation opportunities for interested suppliers.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses focusing on public service operations and maintenance, particularly those with capabilities in infrastructure management and marine operations. Potential competitors could include large firms experienced in bridge operations and maintenance, engineering companies, and service providers with expertise in public works contracts. Winning this contract could lead to sustained engagements, as the awarded contractor may also have opportunities for renewal and long-term collaboration with Glasgow City Council.
