Lot Information
Motherwell Station Park and Ride & Active Travel Links
The Motherwell station park and ride and active travel project consists of increasing park and ride capacity at Farm Street car park to the west and the Pollock Street car parks east of the station. It also consists of improving pedestrian and cycle links from park and ride sites and surrounding residential areas to Motherwell station and town centre, Strathclyde Park and onwards to existing infrastructure over the M74 motorway to create Pan Lanarkshire connectivity. The works at Farm Street/High Road and Pollock Street car parks involve reconfiguring the layouts of existing surface car parks to increase capacity with associated excavation, road make-up and surfacing works, lining to parking bays and soft landscaping and tree planting works. The associated path and cycle network works involve widening and resurfacing paths, new kerbing and lining, deck surface improvements to an existing footbridge over the railway line and new lighting.
Muir Street InterchangeThe Muir Street Project encompasses the reconfiguration and upgrade of existing road and public realm infrastructure to create additional capacity for buses, pedestrian and cyclists to enhance transport interchange between car/bus/bike and train at Motherwell station. It also encompasses landscaping and creation of a new pedestrian route on vacant land between Muir Street and network rail property. The site is bordered by Network Rail land to the west. Japanese Knotweed has been identified on part of the embankment bordering the site this is being treated by the Council. The works at Muir Street involve public realm works including paving in high quality materials; street furniture, tree planting and soft landscaping; creating a transport interchange area with dedicated road space for buses and taxis and bus stopping areas, the installation of bus shelters and associated infrastructure including RealTime travel information and lighting and a relocated signalised pedestrian crossing. At present, the construction boundaries for the Muir Street Interchange contract have not been finalised. It is possible that a proportion of the station forecourt paving works will be procured by a 3rd party. Clarity on the site boundary and extent of works for the Muir Street Interchange lot will be available at ITT stage.
