Structures Works

Lot 2 - Structures Works This lot includes: Seawall: The first priority lies in stabilising fragile key elements such as the gate archway opposite the Gardeners Cottage (see Masterplan). Invasive vegetation and tree/tree root removal shall be carried out to allow full condition inspection and prevent further damage. Other consolidation works can then follow including localised repairs and restoration of the crenellations and rebuilding failing sections of the wall to match the original height and profile. The restoration work is to utilise salvaged rubble and to incorporate drainage outlets. Other Repair Works included in this lot are: The Bastion Wall and parapet Castle Steps The Sunken Garden walls and steps Matheson Bridge The Old Castle Bridge. Lot 2 has an estimated value of GBP 1.1m excluding VAT. An Information Day will be held on Wednesday 24 January 2018 at the Woodlands Centre in the Castle Grounds, Stornoway. Interested parties will have the opportunity to visit the site and ask any questions they may have relating to the project. A detailed itinerary will be made available prior to the open day upon request. The publication of this notice is to allow interested parties to book travel and accommodation as appropriate in advance of the Christmas period. It should be noted that suppliers are liable for their own travel and accommodation costs.

Lot 1 - Buildings Works Boatman's Tower: The main elements are renewing the roof and rainwater drainage system, masonry repairs and repointing, replacement and refurbishment of windows and entrance door. The new roof consists of a steel and glass lantern to replace the existing mansard roof along with associated internal works to allow access to the lantern, and ultimately for the tower to be bought back into use as a meeting space or leased for commercial activities. Porters Lodge: The main priority works are the reinstatement of the roof (currently non-existent), stabilising the external envelope and making the building wind and watertight. Other works to follow include masonry repairs and repointing, refurbishment of windows and doors and lining the rooms to allow future use. Lot 1 has an estimated value of GBP 550,000 excluding VAT.
