Justification: Under Regulation 6(1)(b)(ii) of the Procurement (Scotland) Regulations 2016, a contracting authority may award a contract without competition based on following justification: 2. Competition is absent for technical reasons (only if it is not caused by artificial narrowing down of the parameters of the procurement and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists); Explanation: The LI-COR Odyssey CLx Infrared Imaging Scanner sets the standard for quantitative Western blotting in scientific publications. It's unique direct-detection system allows our researchers to see all the detail and complexity of their Western blots, plate-based assays, or tissue sections, in a single image. This is unlike traditional detection systems where multiple exposures are necessary to look at high and low levels of protein expression in the same blot. The Odyssey CLx provides us with 6-logs of dynamic linear range which ensures that the image will never saturate, no matter how highly a protein is expressed. Other Western Blot imagers provide no more than 4-logs of dynamic linear range. Being able to normalise our protein signals in the same blot and image allows for very accurate quantification of protein expression, which is important for successful publication of research in peer-reviewed journals.
