Uist Raven Survey

SCOTTISH NATURAL HERITAGE

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Natural Heritage is initiating a public procurement process for the "Uist Raven Survey," which falls under the environmental protection category. This tender is currently at the planning stage, with the buying organisation located in Inverness, UK. Interested parties must submit relevant supporting information via email by 09:00 on 18 April 2018. The procurement will cover the Western Isles and aims to assess the raven population in the Uists over a period of nine months, starting late May and possibly extending for an additional three months.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses engaged in environmental services, particularly those with experience in wildlife surveys and ecological studies. Companies that specialise in ornithology or possess a background in conducting surveys in remote rural areas would be particularly well-suited to compete. By participating in this procurement, businesses can contribute to important ecological research while potentially securing a contract valued under GBP 50,000, which allows for broader competition without the complexities of regulated procurement.

Notice Title

Uist Raven Survey

Notice Description

Like many other areas across Scotland, ravens in the Western Isles often come into conflict with crofters who report damage to livestock and produce. It is important to gain a good understanding of the raven population in the Uists, to help us make more informed decisions in their management. This tender will serve to provide SNH with: - An assessment of the number and size of raven flocks across the Uists. - To investigate arrival and dispersal patterns at roosts.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Raven flocks are often found throughout the year close to breeding sites, but will forage well away from occupied nests and up to 20km from roost sites. Through surveys, feeding Raven flocks can be monitored in the late afternoon, and will indicate the direction of their roost site as dusk approaches. 1. Survey Fortnightly visits to known roost sites and 'cold' checks elsewhere. This will require watching raven flocks in the late afternoon and noting where they go as dusk falls. 2. Site and Timescale Survey will cover South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist. Nine months: Late May to February (with possibility of three month extension).

This information will then be used to determine which contractors to formally invite to quote. The Invitation to Quote will likely be issued directly via email rather than via the Public Contracts Scotland portal. This Prior Information Notice is being published so as a wider potential field of candidates may be reached, but it does not fall within the 'regulated procurement' category (i.e. the value is under GBP50,000. Please note that because Section II.3 of this PIN is a mandatory field, a date has been entered but a Contract Notice will NOT be published on this site - as detailed above, the most suitable candidates will be invited to quote directly via email.
