The aim of the work is to provide a methodological and analytical understanding of how much a child costs per year to support the potential introduction of a national minimum allowance for carers. The method should identify the cost of a child through an 'Expenditure Survey' approach. This will be desk-based research and will use data from the UK-wide Living Costs and Food Survey to analyse household expenditure patterns.
