The schools to receive new wood lathes are: - Douglas Ewart High School (5 machines) - Langholm Academy (2 machines) - Castle Douglas High School (2 machines) - Dalry Secondary School (2 machines) - Annan Academy (3 machines) - Kirkcudbright Academy (3 machines) - Dumfries High School (5 machines) - Sanquhar Academy (2 machines) - Dumfries Academy (2 machines) Contract Objectives; - Supply replacement wood lathes across the nine Secondary Schools, which will included for; - Site surveys to ensure electrical supplies, locations within workshops, existing dust extraction etc have been taken into consideration and accounted for within contract - Supply and delivery - Disconnection of existing lathes - Installation and connection to existing electrical supply in accordance with all relevant standard - sale and/or disposal of current machinery.

Contract Objective The existing wood lathes within secondary schools range in age and condition, however generally they are of a 1960's vintage. Whilst they are a robust piece of machinery that has lasted well, parts are no longer available, ensuring compliance with PUWER and other relevant H&S legislation is becoming increasingly challenging. The replacement of these 26 lathes across the nine Secondary Schools will aid towards the Council delivering on the Priority of 'Provide the best start in live for all our children', which also sits within Children, Young People and Lifelong Learnings business plan for 'Invest in creating schools fit for the 21st century which are at the heart of our communities'.
