Notice Description

Community Energy Scotland is seeking tender(s) for the following work, which has been split into two lots: Lot 1: Existing household heating technical assessment, system design, supply, installation, aftercare and removal of domestic heating and hot water system upgrades; and Lot 2: Property technical assessment, system design, supply, installation, aftercare and removal of electric vehicle (EV) charger units.

Smart Domestic Heating and Hot Water Systems

The SMart IsLands Energy system (SMILE) Orkney Demonstrator will focus on installing controllable electrical demand within Zone 1 of Orkney's Active Network Management (ANM) scheme (see Section 3 - Project Area), in order to reduce the curtailment of community-owned renewable generation in the same Zone on the islands of Rousay and Eday, whilst providing intelligent and affordable energy to end users. Domestic Hot Water and Central Heating installations will support the increase in electricity demand at appropriate times to reduce levels of curtailment. It is expected that domestic heat installations will consist of up to 50 properties; which can be sub-divided into four Types, based on the different technologies to be implemented, as follows (further information can be found in the ITT documents): c.15 x "Type 1" installations using internally heated Sunamp UniQ Phase Change Material (PCM) heat battery thermal stores and VCharge 'Dynamo' controllers linked to existing heat sources; c.15 x "Type 2" installations using Air to water Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) combined with internally heated Sunamp UniQ PCM heat battery thermal stores and VCharge 'Dynamo' controllers; c.10 x "Type 3" installations using ASHPs, hot water thermal stores and VCharge 'Dynamo' controllers; and Up to 10 x "Type 4" installations using ASHPs, hot water thermal stores, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and VCharge 'Dynamo' controllers.. Electric Vehicle Smart Chargers

Electric Vehicle (EV) smart charging will support the increase in electricity demand at appropriate times to reduce levels of curtailment. EV charge points will comprise of existing EV owner properties and local tourism sites and accommodation within Zone 1, that either have an EV that they currently charge at home/on site, or a business/facility that would benefit from being able to offer EV charging to customers/visitors. The types of installations for heating and EV charging systems are described in greater detail in the Invitation to Tender documents..
