Summary of the contracting process

The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Museum is currently seeking bids for the "Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum Refurbishment Contract," focused on enhancing public access to the museum located at The Castle, Stirling, FK8 1EH. The procurement is staged under a selective method, requiring submissions to be made electronically by 16 July 2018. The project holds a total contract value of £850,000, which will be awarded based on the most economically advantageous tender, considering both cost and quality. Notably, the refurbishment involves significant construction work within a Scheduled Monument context, necessitating adherence to specific historical preservation guidelines. The contract period is set to commence on 21 September 2018 and conclude on 15 April 2019.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for construction and renovation firms, particularly those experienced in heritage and conservation work. Businesses with capabilities in complex structural modifications and an understanding of working under strict regulatory frameworks will find this project especially aligned with their expertise. Companies should also be ready to demonstrate relevant experience and qualifications through the selection criteria outlined in the submission process, as this tender specifically seeks firms that can navigate the challenges of refurbishing an iconic historical site.

Notice Title

Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum Refurbishment Contract

Notice Description

The works to the museum extend to all areas of the Argylls occupation but focus upon the public museum areas. Public access is to be extended into the ground floor of the Kings Old Buildings (KOB) and as such requires a new external doorway to be formed and two new stair cases inserted into the building. It is the stairs that form the largest and most complex areas of construction, followed by; removal of walls in the centre of the plan and other structures; re-servicing throughout; fire doors and fire protecting elements; joinery and actuation of windows and blinds; finishes and some conservation level specialist decoration works. All of this is to be carried out within the context of the Ancient Scheduled Monument of Stirling Castle which includes the KOB. As such the works are also controlled by the Scheduled Monument Consent (SMC) and the parameters of working within a scheduled building.
