Many of these products are purchased in a linear way, where they are used and then discarded as waste. Whilst the nature of healthcare leads to a significant use of single use items NHSScotland acknowledges the need to review the use of single use products and the possibility of moving to durable alternatives and where this is not possible look for remanufacture/recovery opportunities to keep valuable resources in use for longer.
