UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE

This public procurement record has 2 releases in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The University of Strathclyde has initiated a tender process for the maintenance of two Star Chillers located in the John Anderson building and the Library in Glasgow, UK. This procurement is classified under services in the education sector, with an open procurement method allowing for competitive bidding. The tender is currently in the award stage, having been signed on 1st November 2018, with a total contract value of £53,354. For prospective suppliers, it is essential to meet the criteria outlined in the contract notice, including demonstrating relevant experience and holding necessary insurances, in order to qualify for consideration.

This contract presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in cooling systems and maintenance services, particularly those with experience in high-precision environments such as laboratories. Companies that can demonstrate a proven track record in maintaining complex HVAC systems and possess the requisite technical qualifications would be well-suited to compete. The importance of this contract, given the critical role of temperature control for sensitive equipment, illustrates the potential for ongoing maintenance agreements in similar educational or research institutions.

Notice Title

Maintenance of Star Chillers

Notice Description

The University requires a supplier to maintain two Star Chillers located in the John Anderson building and the Library. The John Anderson has Laser Equipment valued in millions and a chiller failure will result in researchers being unable to work. The laser equipment and optics require very close temperature and humidity control and failure to keep within limits results in equipment going out of calibration or becoming damaged. The Star chillers serving the library are of very high importance particularly close to examination times when the library is very busy. The library has a very deep floor plan without opening windows. Failure of the chillers is likely to leave the building unfit for use.

Should such checks be deemed appropriate to this procurement, the Contracting Authority shall utilise Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) credit check facility. The Contracting Authority proposes to use a Voluntary Approach to Community Benefits for this requirement; this approach is to encourage the Tenderer to offer Community Benefits. These will not form part of the contractual obligation and will not form part of the considerations at Tender evaluation stage. The Contracting Authority reserves the right to request additional deliveries by the Successful Tenderer either intended as partial replacement of supplies or installations or as the extension of existing supplies or installations. The Contracting Authority may at its sole discretion exercise this option. The terms and conditions governing this contract will be the University of Strathclyde's Standard Conditions of Purchase for Goods and Services, and the additional terms of contract at Part 2 of the Invitation to Tender. The buyer is using PCS-Tender to conduct this ITT exercise. The Project code is 11700.
