Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process conducted by Heriot Watt University concerns the "High Power Laser System." This project falls under the education industry and is located in Edinburgh, UK. The current stage of this procurement is at the award phase, following an open tendering procedure. The contract was signed on 4th February 2019, and the university sought a supplier for high average power ultrashort pulsed laser technology, including precision manipulation equipment for laser manufacturing. The total contract value was set at £250,000, with an initial tender submission deadline on 4th January 2019.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in advanced laser technology and precision equipment. Companies that design, manufacture, or provide support for high-performance laser systems would be particularly well-suited to compete. The evaluation criteria for bids puts emphasis on technical quality (60%) and commercial aspects (40%), indicating that suppliers who can demonstrate innovative solutions and effective value additions are more likely to succeed in this market. Additionally, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) may benefit from their agility and specialised capabilities in fulfilling the complex specifications outlined by the university.
