Alterations and Refurbishment of the Wolfson Building for the Department of Biomedical Engineering
Notice Description
The Wolfson building houses the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. This department has been at the forefront of medical research and medical technology teaching since 1963. The success of this national centre of excellence has given rise to ambitious plans for growth, establishing new innovative fields of research, thus generating greater income streams and growth in student and academic teaching staff. In order to achieve this bold, ambitious and innovative objective investment is required to develop state of the art research facilities offering the optimal staff and student experience. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to conduct the necessary alterations and refurbishment to the Wolfson building.

Lot 1
The works will include internal alterations to layouts to suit new research streams and teaching programmes. In addition to the fabric renewal and improvements to the building envelope, a new stair and lift core is to be constructed with an accessible entrance. The new stair will improve circulation in the building and augment emergency escape.
