Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Prison Service is seeking suppliers for the “Provision of Retail Goods to the SPS,” with an emphasis on a range of retail products for use in their establishments across Scotland. The procurement process is currently at the award stage following a selective tender method, specifically a restricted procedure. The contract is valued at approximately £28.35 million and is active, resulting from a prior tender process initiated in early 2019, which closed for submissions on 19 March 2019. The delivery of goods is expected to occur weekly across all operational SPS sites, necessitating compliance with strict security protocols.

This tender provides a significant opportunity for businesses, particularly those specialising in the supply of retail goods such as confectionery, toiletries, and related products. Companies that can demonstrate strong logistical capabilities and proficiency in adhering to regulatory requirements would be well-positioned to compete. Given the total involved and the regularity of supply, small to medium enterprises (SMEs) with experience in public sector contracts may find a beneficial fit in this procurement process, along with larger firms looking to expand their service offerings in the government sector.
