Notice Title
Wave Energy Scotland - Quick Connection System Call and External Experts
Notice Description
Wave Energy Scotland (WES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Highland and Islands Enterprise and is taking an innovative approach to supporting the commercialisation of the wave energy sector until the technical and commercial risks are low enough for the private sector to re-enter the sector. WES, established by the Scottish Government in 2014, has committed almost GBP 39million to 86 projects across the sector, in areas which have been prioritised as requiring the most development and/or having the most impact on the future cost of energy.
Lot Information
Lot 1
WES is exploring options for the design and development of a system which will allow rapid connection/disconnection of a wave energy device from its moorings and/or electrical system. The connection system and method would aim to reduce the time and cost of installation and marine operations relating to a wave energy project. Technology transfer from other sectors is welcomed where solutions to similar challenges may have already been addressed. This Notice mainly relates to a potential funding Call based on the recommendations of two projects completed on behalf of Wave Energy Scotland in 2018. Details on a potential exercise relating to the potential procurement of external experts is also included. Further details have been provided in the additional document attached to this Notice.. The final report for each of the two projects detailed in II.2.4 can be found online on the WES Knowledge Library (basic user registration required). https://library.waveenergyscotland.co.uk/other-activities/landscaping-studies/wes_ls05_er_electrical/ https://library.waveenergyscotland.co.uk/other-activities/landscaping-studies/wes_ls06_er_moorings/
