"description": "Background Edinburgh City Archives (ECA) is the local authority archive service for the City of Edinburgh Council (the Council) and its predecessor bodies. As the local authority archive service for the city it has within its collections records of significant genealogical research interest including: burial registers; foreigner registration; local property taxation rolls; militia enrolments; local passports; and school records. Currently, ECA has a minimal online presence consisting of a few pages on the Council's website, with some basic service information (e.g. opening times for physical access provision) and a handful of catalogues for some of their collections. This does not meet the expectations of service users, who have expressed in a recent service consultation a preference for greater information and access online. The Council archive service has no capacity to digitise material in house and neither do related Council library and museum services. Furthermore, there is no in-house IT infrastructure in place to support the online access and management of digital content at a scale that makes sense for archives, which usually consist of large quantities of searchable text rather than smaller numbers of photographic images. Purpose The purpose of this notice is to test the current and future market capacity to deliver the Service and inform the market of our intention. Interested providers are asked to register their interest and may be contacted by the Council to obtain additional information. Notes of interest should be made no later than Friday 24th May 2019.
