Notice Description
Tunnel lining works
Lot Information
Lot 1
Main contractor for the provision of tunnel lining works. Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is responsible for Glasgow Subway's 21km of tunnel infrastructure which dates back to the 1890s. Effective management of tunnel integrity is critical in ensuring safe and successful operation of the Subway. In order to realise improvements in efficiency / reliability, reduce lifecycle costs and secure the asset for the future, SPT is seeking to form a contract for tunnel lining improvement works. It is anticipated that the contract would have a minimum term of 5 years. The purpose of the tunnel lining works contract will be principally to address a work bank of known, existing defects. SPT will also be seeking flexibility to address arising defects. Works will be required in the Inner Circle and Outer Circle and are expected to include: infilling of annulus voids, concrete repairs, and water management measures such as chemical resin injection and weep pipe installation. SPT hopes to engage a contractor with proven experience in implementing such improvements in a safe manner that maximises and seeks to continually improve on quality and efficiency. The tunnel lining improvement works will be delivered during normal engineering (nightshift) possessions. It is critical to SPT that works are delivered without affecting Subway operational service. There will be an additional requirement to coordinate works delivery with other in-tunnel nightshift activities, including those associated with the on-going Subway Modernisation programme.
