Notice Information
Notice Title
Automated Testing Platform for Blood Borne Infections and Associated Consumables
Notice Description
The NMRU uses a variety of assays to follow confirmatory testing algorithms. Most testing is manual but some assays can be run on testing platforms to reduce manual steps and apply some level of automations to the testing, reducing sources of error and staff time. NMRU currently use an automated ELFA testing platform, to test for markers of HBV and HIV infection. The intention is that SNBTS will purchase a new analyser and enter into a contract for all consumables required to run the system along with any maintenance requirements that the system may have.
Lot Information
Lot 1
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is a division of NHS National Services Scotland (NSS). Accountable to the Scottish Government, NSS works at the very heart of the health service, providing national support services and expert advice to NHSScotland. It also plays an active and crucial role in the delivery of effective healthcare to patients and the public. The NMRU (National Microbiology Reference Unit) provides a confirmatory service for the mandatory and discretionary microbiological markers of infection as specified by JPAC in the Guidelines for the Blood Transfusion Services in the UK (Red Book) e.g. HIV, HBV, HCV, HTLV, HEV, syphilis and malaria. Confirmatory testing is an important part of the donor testing process as it helps identify donors with false positive results in the screening process and donors with blood borne infections that can harm the blood supply. Test results from confirmatory testing algorithms using a variety of MTEG approved diagnostic test kits allow donors without real markers of infection to be safely re-instated back onto the donor panel; these would otherwise be lost to the service. Rapid diagnosis of infection allows donors to receive appropriate treatment, if available, and counselling for potentially life limiting/changing infections. Rapid diagnosis also means that donors have the knowledge to modify their behaviour to help prevent further spread of disease. Importantly, confirmation of positive donors keeps the blood supply safe from known blood borne infections.
Renewal: SNBTS shall be entitled, at its option, to continue the period of the Contract for three (3) twelve (12) month extension periods subject to giving not less than six (6) months' notice to the successful Bidder, such notice to expire not later than the date upon which the Contract would otherwise have expired.
