"description": "For info contact Alexander Holt Tel: +447932784339 E-mail: alexander.holt@gov.scot Main address: https://civtech.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/C4/pages/1308983297/Demo+Day+4.0 Event CivTech's mission is to drive innovation in the public sector by solving challenges that make people's lives better. In its 4th year it has won multiple awards building up a credible international following in the CivTech/GovTech space. The programme takes public sector problems and opens them up to innovators to solve. Via a streamlined procurement process, a cohort between 9 & 14 companies are selected. At the heart of the programme is a successful accelerator programme over a four month period Audience Over 3 years the event has grown, 150 attendees to 500, one of the largest public sector events in Scotland. Delegates have been decision-makers from public, private, third sector, academic and investor communities reflecting the cross-sector nature of CivTech. Demo Day also has Ministerial engagement. For 3.0 (Feb 2019) the First Minister delivered the welcome video address, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Economy and Fair Work, Derek Mackay, delivered the keynote, and the Minister for Public Finance and Digital, Kate Forbes, wrote the foreword. We have increasing levels of international engagement. Government/public sector reps from Poland, Austria, Germany and The Netherlands attended. Venue The EICC will be the venue for Demo Day 4.0. This worked well for 2.0 and 3.0. (Pentland Suite has been booked) For this cohort we have added a room for any workshops/meetings whilst key delegates are in the room. Catering is served in the Strathblane Hall, where companies have a stand, this provides an opportunity to engage with delegates at breakout/lunch sessions. Format The event has grown over the years. Demo Day 4.0 will be our most ambitious with 10 challenges and 14 companies presenting solutions. At its heart are the presentations by the companies. The format is a 7+3 minute presentation. The difference to a conventional demo day is the involvement of the challenge sponsor. This combination of short challenge introduction followed by company solution has been praised as a great insight into the relationship between challenge sponsor and company. Allowing sufficient time for networking was also hugely beneficial to the companies. As such, time before, during and post-event maximises the opportunity to network and has led to some companies generating up to 25 leads from the single day. In addition to the presentations, we have a Ministerial keynote and a speaker slot. For 4.0 we anticipate a short presentation slot for our headline sponsor, along with lightning talk opportunities for our other key sponsors. The Digital Directorate is focused on delivering the SG's digital strategy, to realise Scotland's full potential in a digital world. This is a strategy for Scotland, not just the Scottish Government. It recognises the profound challenges that digital poses for the nature of work, for society and for both the world and domestic economies. It also accepts that no single organisation can hope to have the answers to these questions and therefore looks to create a culture and environment of partnership in which we take collective action to ensure that nobody is left behind and we all remain safe, secure and confident about the future. With a mission to drive daring innovation in the public sector by collaboratively solving challenges that make people's lives better - in doing so, create generations of sustainable, high growth businesses, CivTech is proud to be part of the Digital Directorate's work to transform Scotland's public services and infrastructure.
