Lot Information

Lot 1

SNBTS wishes to put in place a contract for the rental of all equipment that includes all controls and cuvettes required to test approximately 188,000 blood donors. The Blood Safety Quality Regulations (BSQR) set the minimum and maximum haemoglobin (Hb) levels for blood donors as between 125 g/L and 165g/L for females and between 135 g/L and 180g/L for males. SNBTS currently evaluate Hb levels (using venous and capillary blood) of all donors' immediately before each donation to ensure a donor's Hb level is within the acceptable range. Donors' with an Hb level out with the acceptable range are deferred from donating and given advice which may recommend a consultation with their General Practitioner. It is vital that deferrals are based on accurate test methods to optimise donor safety and minimise deferrals, donor anxiety as a result of inaccurate test results. The equipment will be used to test the haemoglobin levels of whole blood and component donors in static and mobile sites throughout Scotland SNBTS test approximately 188,000 donors per annum and require 110 Hb qualified analysers. SNBTS wish to maintain current practice of a single quantitive test for determination of Hb levels. SNBTS expect suppliers to work with them in respect of the capabilities of the Hb analysers to the improvements they make within the collection environment, throughout its life cycle.

Renewal: Three (3), Twelve (12) month extensions will be allowed.
