We also require a supplier committed to buying organic produce whenever possible. Our standard requirements are bulk deliveries of a wide range of products. This includes supplies of oats, flour, grain and other raw ingredients in larger packaging volumes.

The University of Edinburgh requires a single supplier for a very wide range of Fairtrade, organic, gluten free, GM free and vegan products. We also require a supplier committed to buying organic produce whenever possible. Our standard requirements are bulk deliveries of a wide range of products. This includes supplies of oats, flour, grain and other raw ingredients in larger packaging volumes. This includes brown basmati rice, white basmati rice, brown lentils, green lentils, cannellini beans, porridge oats and jumbo oats for muesli in 25kg bags. We also require couscous in 15kg bags and polenta, barley grain, mixed dried fruit such as raisins and apricots etc to be supplied in 10kg bags. We also require wild rice, lentils, quinoa, sunflower seed and other pulses in large quantities and in units of no smaller than 3kg. This list is not exhaustive and includes many other food stuffs in bulk quantities. The supply of all our requirements in bulk quantities is essential and is crucial in allowing the University to reduce, as far as is possible, the volume of packaging which enters our mixed recyclable waste stream. This is a major enabler in the University working to achieve its ongoing carbon reduction targets. A supply chain with an active interest in animal welfare would also be advantageous We would like to engage with a supplier with a sustainable business model strongly focussed on minimising the effect of their business operations on the environment and designed to benefit the local community. A reduction in food miles would also be advantageous. A transparent supply chain that can be evidenced as such is also most desirable. We would also seek to engage with a supplier who actively provides community benefits in their locality. This could include contributions to a local food bank and/or other socially conscious activity.
