Notice Title

Beyond Brexit Blueprint for the Scottish Seafood Sector

Notice Description

The review will take a focused, supply chain view on the actions required to fulfil the aim of taking full advantage of becoming a coastal state and increasing landings into Scotland and processing and adding value to the product to ensure profitability, sustaining rural communities, creating employment and world-wide demand for our products. This blueprint will outline the activity required by the Scottish Government and Government Agencies, Seafood Scotland, and Industry bodies to grow the value of seafood sector supply chain in Scotland.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Our aim is to produce a compelling and positive vision for where the seafood sector needs to be post Brexit and outlining the current state of play and the hurdles the industry will face and need to overcome in the coming months and years. The blueprint for the sector is to not only successfully catch and sell their current offering but to take advantage of the opportunity a coastal state will bring to Scotland's seafood sector. To take advantage of becoming a coastal state and increased landings we need a fit for purpose supply chain. We need to understand the impact on catching sector; what will the supply potentially look like by who is landing and where; by species, volume; the impact of the windfall for direct contract and fish markets. Do processors have the current processing and cold store capacity; How will these extra landings be marketed; what market opportunities will there be; what support will there be the access current and new markets with volumes and potential new species; what countries will free trade agreements be sought; what tariffs will be imposed on current and potential markets; what documentation will be required to access these markets. What are the constraints on logistics post Brexit of ensuring these products arrive at market destinations in a timely cost efficient manner.
