The project is scaling up to the need to extract DNA from about 20,000 samples within 6 months (from about 5-8k extractions in a normal year). We are using the DNA for Illumina genotyping (Global Screening Array) and are sending an aliquot to Genome England for Whole Genome Sequencing. This is a big and nationally important project. To be able to ensure we can extract at this rate automation is urgently required. The Perkin Elmer Chemagic 360 system is the best fit. This is based on: 1. Needing to extract from 9ml of blood (this limits the number of platforms available) 2. Advice from Genome England (who are doing the WGS) and UK Biocentre who have a validated pipeline for extraction and whole genome sequencing that we will be following. (SC Ref:620557)",
