Digital Engagement and Online Portal Development (MyMuseum Project)
Notice Description
Culture Perth and Kinross is seeking to appoint software developers/digital interpretation specialists to develop the MyMuseum Project. The main elements of this project will be to design and develop a new online search portal that will highlight two collections from Perth Museum and Art Gallery; to deliver an interactive digital table exhibit which will display these two collections (in a similar style to the portal) for public engagement; and to collaborate with Abertay University to develop the process by which to deliver the MyMuseum interactive platform which will incorporate the highlighted collections content.
Lot Information
Lot 1
Call to deliver: 1. A bespoke user-friendly aesthetically pleasing public interface serving as an online portal to explore two highlighted collections held at Perth Museum and Art Gallery (PMAG). These collections will be: a. Crowdsourced - a collection of community and PMAG-sourced images and oral histories around memories of Perth City Hall. b. Star Objects - selected objects from Perth & Kinross's Recognised Collection of National Significance. This portal should be accessible as a link on the current Culture Perth & Kinross (CPK) collections search page. Integration with existing CPK site will be preferred, but a microsite will also be considered. 2. The means by which to deliver inter-connectivity and integration between the public interface portal and an online interactive engagement platform (MyMuseum) which is being developed by students at Abertay University (AU). This platform will allow the user to build a virtual museum environment and import from the interface portal, previously selected MyMuseum items. A close working relationship between the successful applicant and the assigned AU students and lecturers will be an essential part of this process. 3. An offline stand-alone interactive screen table displaying both highlighted collections from which the user can investigate the objects. This will utilise the design and display features developed for the interface portal. The MyMuseum project aims to inspire a step change in CPK's capacity to meaningfully connect people with objects and their stories by introducing innovative and interactive digital engagement opportunities using accessible and fun online platforms. CPK will be working in partnership with cutting edge practitioners from AU to create the digital tools the museum requires to connect audiences to collections. By engaging via the new portal, the user will be able to connect to MyMuseum platform where they will have the ability to design a unique interactive museum environment and upload content from the two highlighted PMAG collections. Their MyMuseum will have the capacity to be shared and visited by others. This will enable our users to become advocates through curating and sharing PMAG content using this MyMuseum platform, as well as spending more time browsing the collections on the improved online portal. CPK is a charitable trust bringing art, culture, books, creative communities, local history and heritage to Perth and Kinross. Our vision is to be at the heart of a cultural community that connects people's ideas, knowledge and collections. We aim to deliver a range of sector leading services which will engage a wide and diverse audience in the best of local, national and international culture.
